Port Blair, Sep 25:Mr. B.P Ray Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in his letter addresses to the Lt. Governor has requested him to declare Vijaya Dashami 14.10.2013 as public holiday in Islands.
The Administration has declared 13.10.2013 (Sunday) as Public Holiday on the eve of Dussehra. Durga Puja is one of the prime festivals celebrated in Andaman & Nicobar Islands by a major population, irrespective of region and language.
In the Dussehra celebrations, Vijaya Dasami is the most important festival day all believers carry out mass pujas and celebrations. Considering the above fact, Public Holiday is always given in the past on the day of ”Vijaya Dashami” only. This year Vijaya Dashami is falling on 14.10.2013 but the Administration has declared 13.10.2013 (Sunday) as public holiday.
“A large section of people and associations approached me to take up this matter with the Administration to declare Public Holiday as usual on 14.10.2013 on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dasami instead of 13.10.2013,” MP said in his letter.
Mr. Ray requested the Lt. Governor through his letter to use his discretionary powers to declare 1410.2013 as public holiday for the masses of these Islands.
