Port Blair, Sept 01: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited the Primary Health Centre, Garacharma. He took a round of the hospital and interacted with the doctors, staff and patients and inquired about the health care facilities being provided to the patients. He also issued directions to the Director of Health Services to resolve the OPD problems and opening more Pharmacy Counters so that patients do not have to wait for long. He also called upon the PRI members to organise cleanliness drives by organising “shramdan” so that the surrounding areas of the hospital remain neat and clean.
Thereafter, the Lt Governor inspected the functioning of the 5 MW capacity Solar Power Plant, operated by NTPC at Garacharma. He issued directions to the Secretary (Power) to come up with schemes for installing more such green projects.
Thereafter, the Lt Governor visited Beodnabad and held a meeting with the PRIs and general public at Beodnabad Panchayat. Smt Maimuna, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Beodnabad welcomed the Lt Governor and highlighted various issues of the people. Other PRI members and the general public, who had gathered also submitted their problems to Hon’ble Lt Governor. The Lt Governor heard them patiently and issued directions to the concerned Departments to resolve these issues in a time bound manner.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor expressed happiness that the PRI members and the people of the area are fully aware about the issues and problems of their areas. He assured them that the Administration will put in 100 percent commitment in resolving issues and problems of the people in a time bound manner. He further stated that PRIs and the District Administration should work collectively to resolve all genuine issues of the people.
Smt Abala Sammaddar, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad (South Andaman), PRI members and senior officers of the Administration were present on the occasion.
Later, he visited the Govt. Senior Secondary School, Rangachang and took a round of the school. Directions were issued to the Chief Engineer (APWD) to initiate the process of demolition of the old wooden school structure and start construction of the new class rooms, which should have separate toilet facilities. He also urged the PRIs to get the playground of the school done. The Lt Governor also tasted the mid-day meal offered to the children of the school.
On his way back, the Lt Governor visited Govt. Middle School, Beodnabad, where he issued directions to CE (APWD) to dismantle the dilapidated structure adjacent to the new classrooms and initiate the process of construction of new class rooms as well as construct the approach road to the new classrooms.
At the end of the visit, he visited the APWD’s pump house at Beodnabad. He also visited the Water Treatment Plant at Birdline and reviewed the Lalmitti Water Supply scheme.
