Port Blair, Jul 29: Mr. Selvaraj, President, State Part Time Education Employees Association and other members of the Association today apologized to the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, for acting against him, organizing dharnas and burning his effigies.
Leveling serious allegation against the PCC President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, during a press conference at BJP Bhawan, Port Blair, Mr. Selvaraj alleged that the President, PCC had misguided them.
Taking charge of the conference Mr. Ray took up the burning issue of BPL which was recently in news in the local media. Mr. Ray accused administration of providing false figures of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Government of India.
Mr. Ray also informed that on 11th September 2011 a notification was received by the administration which ordered for a BPL and cast survey to be conducted and the administration sent a report to the Govt. of India stating that 1% population of the Union Territory lives under BPL which was also stated in the Planning Commission.
Mr. Ray added that it’s almost two years since the notification was received but until now the survey has not started. He also informed that according to the information furnished by the Administration to the Govt. of India, Port Blair has no one living under BPL and the 1% BPL population lives in rural areas.
He also added that there according to the 2002 BPL survey there were 67,000 people living under BPL in 15,768 households.
Mr. Ray further informed the media that the Port Blair Municipal Council is making new set of bye laws for building construction and the council has released the draft and according to the draft in Port Blair Municipal boundary no construction can take place in land measuring up to 100 sq mts of area and if any construction is done on such lands the building or the construction will be demolished.
Mr. Ray further questioned that what does the municipal council wants to change by the new bye laws and why they were unsuccessful in implementing the old set of bye laws. He further seeked the attention of the Administration towards this new bye laws.
Mr. Ray further said that the Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank is not issuing the old age pension on time to the customers.
He also spoke on the issue of Viper Island and informed that in 40 days Andaman and Nicobar command Issued NOC for construction of Yatch Marina at Viper Island and he questioned that who all were involved in issuing the NOC. He also questioned whether there was involvement of any foreign power. He further said that he met the Lt. Governor and requested him that the Viper Island should be declared as a heritage site.
Mr. Ray further questioned the administration that why the important developments like the optical fiber cable, National Highway, Medical, Engineering colleges are at a standstill.
