Port Blair, July 11: The Directorate of Health Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration in association with the Union Territory Health Mission has Observed “WORLD POPULATION DAY 2013”, with the theme “Chhota Parivar-Sukhi Parivar” on 11th July 2013, at Panchayat hall, Chouldari, to create awareness about growing Population and population control and its socio economic implication. The Programme was attended by PRI members, Media personals, Govt. officials, Teachers, Anganwadi
workers, ASHA’s, Para- Medical Staffs , NGOs and general public. Mrs. Ratna Kannan, Chair Person, A & N Social Welfare Board was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Dr. (Mrs.) Shabnan Saleem, Medical Officer (Homoeo), PHC Ferrargunj welcomed the chief guest and the gatherings. In her address she highlighted the Importance of the day and the ultimate goal of the observance of World Population Day.
Speaking on the Occasion Dr. M.K. Saha, Sr. Gynecologist, G. B. Pant Hospital has highlighted about various methods of Population control such as spacing and Permanent methods for male and female for small family norms and to stabilize the Population Growth of the Country. He also informed that now mothers can undergo for Sterilization operation without signature of their Husband on consent papers. He urged the general public to come forward and convey the population control message in their community to stabilize the population growth.
Mr. Subhash Dey, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Chouldari, welcomed the Health Team and in his address he has appreciated the Health Department efforts for organizing population control programme in Chouldari village and he also appealed the Health Department to organize such type of programmes in remote and unreached areas to create awareness among eligible couples so that they can come forward for accepting family planning methods.
During the programme a Nukkad Natak on “Chhota Parivar- Sukhi Parivar” was performed by Aditya Natya Academy, Port Blair which was appreciated by the Chief Guest as well as the general public.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Ratna Kannan, Chair Person, A & N Social Welfare Board, South Andaman District, highlighted about various incidents happening in all around our society and appeal eligible mothers to accept any family planning methods after one or two child to control population growth. Arid she also urged to the general public especially the women groups to come forward and extend their co-operation to stabilize population growth.
At the end of the Programme Mr. V.A. Mohd. Ashraf , Health Educator, State Health Education Bureau , Directorate of Health Services, Port Blair proposed vote of thanks.
