Sri Vijaya Puram, November 5: The BJP today took out a ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ padayatra at Sri Vijaya Puram, accusing the Congress of “politicising the SIR of electoral rolls and misleading youngsters to provoke confrontation.”
Carrying BJP flags and national flags, the grand foot march began at 4 PM from BJP Bhavan at Middle Point. More than 2,800 people participated in the padayatra.
BJP State President Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, MLA from West Bengal Mr. Krishna Kanta Saha, Convenor of the padayatra programme Mr. Sher Singh, all state office bearers, Councillors and PRI members were among those who participated in the march.
Mrs. K. Chellamma and Mr. Naresh Chandra Lal, Padma Shri awardees, were among the prominent personalities who participated.
The march is part of the BJP’s campaign across the nation aimed at countering the opposition INDIA bloc’s narrative against the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. A public meeting was organised at Tiranga Park following the foot march, where the padayatra ended.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was unable to accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued popularity and was attempting to destabilise the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
Referring to Mr. Gandhi’s remarks on ‘regime change’, Mr. Tiwari claimed that the opposition was seeking to remove a government that had received a democratic mandate.
“Rahul Gandhi is frustrated. Time and again, in the Lok Sabha elections, the people of this country, particularly its politically aware voters, have blessed Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi is unable to tolerate this. That is why they are staging protests every day at Jantar Mantar. They are trying to create an atmosphere of anarchy across the country,” he said.
Mr. Tiwari said the Congress was opposing the SIR exercise despite voter-list revisions having been carried out several times across the country.
“The Congress has no faith in the SIR process. It has no faith in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). It does not even have faith in the Supreme Court. The party is creating doubts about constitutional institutions,” he alleged.
Referring to recent protests in New Delhi, Mr. Tiwari alleged that certain elements were attempting to create unrest in India, similar to incidents in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and France. He claimed that these forces were seeking to remove the BJP from power despite its electoral mandate.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray targeted the Congress government in the country prior to 2014, accusing it of unbearable corruption and rising prices, which he said had made life difficult for poor and ordinary people. He also listed the good works done in the Islands during the NDA regime under Mr. Modi.
Mr. Sher Singh, State Vice President, alleged that Congress governments have always been anti-farmer, anti-poor and anti-people, and called upon party workers to work towards making the Islands Congress-mukt in the forthcoming local body elections in 2027.
He said the ‘Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy’ padayatra was organised to create awareness among people and explain the facts about the false narrative on ‘Vote Chori’, SIR voter deletion and EVMs.
Mr. Singh expressed confidence that the BJP will capture all the local body seats during the 2027 Panchayat and Municipal elections.
