Port Blair, Jul 3: BJP, quoting the circular issued by the Central Government has stated that Fire Brigade and Police Personnel of A&N Islands personnel will no more be given thirteen months’ salary against their performance of duty for twelve months. At Present both the Police Personnel and Fire Brigade Personnel are drawing thirteen month salary in a year against serving for 12 months.
He added that Andaman and Nicobar Islands itself is a Hard area compared to mainland India and the fire fighters and the Police personnel are to serve in outer islands which is also more harder. The Fire fighters are again the key personnel not only to fight fire but also are responsible to deliver services during disasters as a part of Disaster Management.
He added that the Islands are in high seismic zone and the last Tsunami has scripted an indelible mark of fear amongst the entire Islander who is in fact getting some solace seeing the fire fighters beside them at the need of the hour. On the same line the Police Personnel of the A&N Islands are not only responsible for mere Law and Order -maintenance but also work with shoulder to shoulder with the rest of defense personnel to ensure security of the entire Islands apprehending poachers and intruders in Bay of Bengal etc.
He stated that they cannot be compared their counterpart in mainland India. The curtailment of one month salary will naturally lower the morale of these personnel and in turn minimize their enthusiasm and zeal to deliver services to the Islanders.
Keeping the consideration the situational fact of Andaman Nicobar Islands as a hard area with more responsibility, the Party has condemned the move of curtailment of one month (Thirteenth one) salary presently being given to Police and Fire Brigade Personnel and urged to take back the decision in favor of these islands as a very special case, a communication received from BJP said.
