Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 28: Gram Panchayat Shivapuram Pradhan Mr. Venkateswar Rao has urged the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, to take immediate steps to restore power supply in Rangat and adjoining rural areas following reported failure of another DG Set at Rangat Bay Power House.
According to the Electricity Department’s Circular No. 219 dated 27 September 2026, technical faults in DG-1 and DG-2 had already resulted in a generation deficit and rotational load-shedding. The situation has further worsened with the reported failure of another DG Set. With three out of four DG Sets reportedly unavailable, the power crisis has intensified, affecting around 17 Gram Panchayats from Baratang to Basantipur and a large rural population dependent on the Rangat Bay power system.
Under the existing load-shedding arrangement, consumers are receiving electricity for only around 8 hours a day, with prolonged outages affecting households, schools, healthcare facilities, government offices, local businesses, drinking-water pumping and students’ studies.
In his representation, Pradhan Mr. Venkateswar Rao has requested the Administration to expedite restoration of the defective DG Sets and immediately deploy an adequate-capacity alternate/standby DG Set at Rangat Bay Power House. He has also sought an urgent review of the load-shedding schedule and long-term measures to strengthen power security in Rangat and surrounding rural areas.
He further acknowledged the intervention of Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray and requested continued follow-up with the Administration until the power crisis is fully resolved.
