Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 27: A house caught fire near the Rest Camp during the early hours of this morning, prompting an immediate response from the Fire & Emergency Services, Mayabunder.
The Fire Station, Mayabunder (FS M/B), received an emergency call at 0005 hrs, reporting that a house near the Rest Camp had caught fire. On receipt of the information, the fire crew immediately turned out with the fire tender and proceeded to the incident site. The firefighting team reached the location within approximately 12 minutes.
On arrival, the firefighters observed heavy smoke and burning embers emerging from the structure, indicating an intense fire condition inside the house. As the affected house was located at a considerable distance from the main road, approximately six lengths of delivery hose were laid from the fire tender to establish an adequate water supply and reach the fire point.
The house was found to be locked. The premises were opened by the Fire & Emergency Services personnel in the presence of police personnel and nearby residents to facilitate immediate firefighting operations. During the initial assessment, it was also found that one LPG cylinder had already exploded inside the premises.
Considering the risk of fire spread to the adjoining houses, the firefighters immediately commenced defensive and offensive firefighting operations. Water jets were applied to suppress the fire, cool the affected structure and prevent radiant heat and flame spread to nearby properties. During the operation, the crew also successfully removed one LPG cylinder from the burning premises, thereby reducing the risk of further escalation to the nearby houses.
The firefighting operation continued for nearly two and a half hours. With the assistance of the OP (Rest Camp) staff, the Fire & Emergency Services personnel successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the neighbouring houses.
The timely response, effective hose-line deployment and coordinated firefighting efforts helped contain the incident and prevent further spread of the fire.
The estimated loss to the affected house is approximately Rs. 7 lakh, while the surrounding properties exposed to fire risk were estimated at approximately Rs. 6 lakh.
