Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 27: In a significant step towards making the education sector in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands simpler, more transparent and accessible, the Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, has approved a key proposal aimed at easing the process of recognition of new schools.
The period of recognition for new schools, which had earlier been reduced from three years to one year, has now been extended to five years. The move will provide greater stability to newly established educational institutions and enable them to focus more effectively on improving academic quality and educational outcomes.
In another major reform, the number of documents required for recognition of schools has been reduced from 19 to just 5. The decision will significantly reduce unnecessary paperwork and the regulatory compliance burden on school managements, thereby making the recognition process more efficient and hassle-free.
The reform is fully aligned with the vision of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ of the Prime Minister and the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to create a more transparent, accountable and enabling educational environment.
The Lt. Governor said that the Administration is committed to promoting quality education, encouraging private participation and simplifying procedures in the Islands. The reform will not only make it easier to establish new schools but will also enhance administrative transparency and accelerate the overall development of the education sector.
The proposed framework will, however, not dilute or affect in any manner the existing powers of the Department relating to inspection, verification, monitoring and enforcement.
