Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: A two-day competency-building workshop for ANKURAN Mentors in Literacy and Numeracy from all 38 Cluster Resource Centres (CRCs) commenced at the Auditorium of GSSS Mohanpura, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The workshop is being organised to strengthen the academic, mentoring and field-level capacities of the 76 ANKURAN Mentors, comprising one Literacy Mentor and one Numeracy Mentor from each of the 38 CRCs across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The inaugural session was attended by the ANKURAN Mentors in person, while all CRC Coordinators from the 38 CRCs joined the programme through Video Conferencing, facilitating coordinated participation from across the UT.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Sangeeta Chand, Director, A&NISCERT, highlighted the significance of Mission ANKURAN in strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy among students and emphasised the crucial role of CRC-level mentors in translating the mission into effective school-level practice.
The Director called upon the mentors to be more proactive, responsive and academically engaged, and to take a leadership role in mentoring schools and supporting teachers. The mentors were encouraged to act as an effective bridge between A&NISCERT and schools by ensuring regular follow-up, monitoring the implementation of the ANKURAN framework and providing appropriate academic handholding to school-level mentees.
The workshop focuses on Competency-Based Education and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, with emphasis on the ANKURAN levels, student adoption, Zero Period implementation, use of differentiated worksheets, mentoring practices, monitoring and documentation.
The workshop will continue on 26 September 2026, with sessions aimed at further strengthening the mentors’ competencies and preparing them to effectively lead the implementation of Mission ANKURAN at the CRC and school levels.
