Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President, BJP, A & N Islands in a letter addressed to Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India has invited his attention towards a critical issue being faced by the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands about the unavailability of sufficient LPG cylinders.
He further added that during monsoon season and during bad weather / rough sea conditions which prevails for 4-5 months in a year, shipping services are completely disrupted for 10-15 days at a stretch. During this period, the remote islands face acute shortage of LPG cylinders, causing immense hardship to domestic households, Anganwadis, Mid-Day Meal centres and small hotels & establishments dependent on commercial cylinders.
As per available data, present monthly quota is insufficient to maintain a buffer stock in the remote islands. To overcome this crisis, the Administration and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) need additional stock to pre-position in all remote Islands before the onset of monsoon.
Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, on behalf of the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Bharatiya Janata Party, A&N Islands, has requested the Minister to take steps to supply 8000 Additional Domestic LPG Cylinders and 2000 Additional Commercial LPG Cylinders as special one-time buffer stock quota for Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
This additional quota will be stored as a buffer stock at Sri Vijaya Puram and other island depots of IOC to ensure uninterrupted supply of cylinders to people, even during bad weather and rough sea conditions. This will also support the growing tourism sector and implementation of PM Ujjwala Yojana in remote tribal areas.
