Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 08: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
According to the latest weather warning, the following conditions are expected:
• Wednesday, September 9: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are very likely at one or two places over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
• Thursday, September 10: Thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph, are likely at one or two places.
• Friday, September 11: Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at one or two places.
• Saturday, September 12: Heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm is likely at one or two places over the Andaman Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also likely.
• Sunday, September 13: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at one or two places over the islands.
• Monday, September 14: Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph may occur at one or two places.
Advisory
Residents are advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning, particularly in exposed areas. Fishermen and those engaged in marine activities should follow the latest advisories issued by the authorities before venturing into the sea.
The port weather outlook for the subsequent two days is expected to show little change.
