
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 01: A strong protest was organised in Little Andaman following reports of an FIR being registered against Leader of Opposition Mr. Rahul Gandhi.
At the time the news was received, Mr. O. Bashir, State President of the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, was on a visit to Little Andaman. Immediately after receiving the information, he held discussions with his team regarding the matter.
Following consultations, Mr. O. Bashir and his team decided to organise a protest demonstration in front of the R.K. Pur Block Office. He appealed to the people of Little Andaman to participate in large numbers and raise their voice in protest.
The demonstration witnessed active participation from senior Congress leaders, party workers, frontal organisations and members of the RGPRS team. Among those present were Mahila Congress President Mrs. Zubaida Begum, City President Mr. Zubair, NSUI President Mr. M.A. Shazid, Minority President Mr. Shaji, City General Secretary Mr. Raj Reddy, former Zilla Parishad Member Mrs. Lily, former Minority Vice-President Mr. Aamir Bux, Mr. Wilbert, Block President Mr. Gopal Shah, Up-Pramukh Mr. Raja, Mandal President Mr. Atul, Committee Member Mrs. Maheshwari, former Pradhan Mrs. Deepa Paul, Mr. R. Babu, Mr. Sameer Mazumdar, Mr. Sumanto Biswas and Hut Bay Block President Mr. Rathin Malakar, among others.
During the protest, participants raised slogans and expressed their opposition over the reported action against Mr. Rahul Gandhi. Following the demonstration, a rally was taken out from the Congress Office to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Office. Congress workers and supporters raised slogans and staged a protest against what they described as the alleged excesses of the BJP.
At the conclusion of the programme, Mr. Gokul Biswas expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the leaders, party workers, RGPRS team members, representatives of frontal organisations and the people of Little Andaman for their active participation and contribution towards making the programme successful.
