Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: In a major relief for residents of the Mayabunder region, the State Transport Service (STS) will introduce a new shuttle bus service on Route No. 11 from September 1, 2026, to address the long-pending demand for improved local public transport connectivity.
According to a public notice issued by the Office of the Assistant Engineer, State Transport Service, Mayabunder, the new shuttle service has been introduced to facilitate senior citizens, patients, office-going persons and other members of the general public.
The shuttle service will operate between Mayabunder and the DC Office via R.P. Hospital, providing connectivity to important public facilities in the area. The service will operate during both morning and evening hours on a temporary schedule.
Under the morning schedule, buses will depart from Mayabunder at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, reaching the DC Office via R.P. Hospital at 9:25 AM, 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM respectively. Return services from the DC Office to Mayabunder will operate at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM, arriving at Mayabunder at 9:55 AM, 11:00 AM and 12:00 noon respectively.
In the evening, services from Mayabunder to the DC Office will depart at 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM, while return services from the DC Office will operate at 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 5:15 PM. The buses will operate via R.P. Hospital.
The introduction of the shuttle service comes after persistent concerns over the difficulties faced by residents, particularly patients, elderly persons and people travelling to government offices, due to inadequate local transport connectivity in Mayabunder.
The issue had also been highlighted by Andaman Sheekha and the Andaman Live news channel in May 2026, drawing attention to the long-pending demand for a dedicated shuttle service and the difficulties being faced by the public. The introduction of the service is now expected to provide much-needed relief to residents and improve access to essential public facilities.
The STS has requested members of the public to make use of the newly introduced shuttle bus service for their convenience. The timings have been described as temporary, and further changes may be made depending on operational requirements and public response.
