Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 24: The State Control Room, based on the latest weather forecast issued by IMD Kolkata and IMD Shadipur, Sri Vijaya Puram, has warned of continued thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds and lightning over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the forecast period from August 25 to August 30, 2026.
Fishermen Advised Against Venturing into Sea
A fishermen warning has also been issued for the Andaman and Nicobar coast. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast from August 25 to August 28, 2026.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast during the warned period.
The warning further states that swell waves with periods of 14–18 seconds and heights of around 1.9–2.2 metres are likely over the coast. Such conditions may result in a possibility of surging waves, and boats are advised to ply with utmost vigilance.
Recreational activities along the coast and at sea have also been advised to be undertaken with due care in view of the expected conditions.
Farmer Warning Issued
The weather authorities have also warned of thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the forecast period.
The State Control Room has advised the public, fishermen, farmers and other stakeholders to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the anticipated weather and sea conditions.
The Port Warning indicates little change in weather conditions during the subsequent two days.
