Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 19: As part of its ongoing public awareness initiatives, the Andaman & Nicobar Police conducted a comprehensive awareness programme on “Cyber Crime & Its Trends, Cyber Crime Awareness, and Drugs & Narcotics Awareness” at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Dollygunj, Sri Vijaya Puram, on Aug. 17.
During the Cyber Crime Awareness session, participants were sensitised about emerging cyber threats, digital arrest scams, online financial frauds, social media-related crimes, identity theft, phishing, fraudulent links, digital payment scams and other cyber-enabled offences. Real-life cybercrime case studies were shared to explain the modus operandi of cybercriminals. Emphasis was laid on cyber hygiene, safeguarding personal and financial information, using strong passwords and exercising caution while using social media, online banking and digital payment platforms. Participants were advised not to share OTP, PIN, passwords, CVV, banking credentials or other sensitive information and to report suspected cyber financial fraud immediately through Cyber Crime Helpline No. 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
During the Drugs & Narcotics Awareness session, students and staff were sensitized about the harmful effects of drug abuse and addiction and the serious legal consequences of illegal possession, consumption, transportation, sale and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances under the NDPS Act. Adverse impact of drugs on health, education, career, family and society were highlighted and students were encouraged to resist peer pressure, make informed choices and maintain a healthy and responsible lifestyle. They were also encouraged to share credible information regarding drug peddling and other narcotics-related activities with the Police. The programme provided an opportunity for students to interact with Police Officers and understand the emerging challenges in the digital environment and the importance of staying away from drugs and narcotic substances.
