Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 09: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning at one or two places over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the coming days.
The weather conditions are likely to continue till August 13, with thunderstorms and lightning along with gusty winds expected at isolated places. The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a fishermen warning for the Andaman and Nicobar coast. Squally winds reaching 35–45 kmph and occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during the period from August 10 to August 13.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts during this period.
The IMD has also issued a swell surge alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with waves in the range of 16.0–24.0 seconds period and 2.1–2.6 metres in height forecast up to 11:30 pm on August 10. The public has been advised to exercise caution as there is a possibility of wave surging and to carry out recreational activities near the coast with due care.
