Sri Vijaya Puram, August 9: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands has once again found a place of pride on the national stage, with the prestigious President’s Colour (President’s Colour/Nishaan) of Puducherry Police being designed by renowned islander designer Shri Jag Jeevan Ram, who is presently serving as Administrative Officer at ICMR–Regional Medical Research Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The President’s Colour was formally presented to the Puducherry Police by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah at a ceremonial function held in Puducherry today. The occasion marked a historic milestone for the Union Territory’s police force and celebrated its distinguished service, dedication and commitment to the people.
The President’s Colour is one of the highest honours that can be conferred upon a police force of a State or Union Territory. Also known as Nishaan, it symbolises the honour, courage, discipline, traditions, heritage and distinguished service of the entire police organisation. The ceremonial flag becomes a permanent emblem of the force and serves as a source of pride and inspiration for generations of police personnel.
The design of the prestigious Colour by Mr. Jag Jeevan Ram adds a special dimension to the historic occasion. Hailing from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Ram has earned recognition for his creative contribution to the design of institutional logos, emblems and insignia for various government and national organisations.
His creative work has previously included distinctive insignia and logos associated with police and other important institutions. His contribution to the President’s Colour of Puducherry Police has now placed the creative talent of the islands on another significant national platform.
For the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the achievement is particularly noteworthy as an island-born and island-based professional has contributed to the visual identity of one of the country’s most prestigious ceremonial honours for a police force.
Shri Jag Jeevan Ram is serving at ICMR–RMRC, Sri Vijaya Puram, while continuing his passion for design and contributing his creative skills to various institutions. His journey demonstrates how talent from the remote islands can reach national platforms and contribute to matters of institutional and national importance.
The conferment of the President’s Colour on Puducherry Police is therefore not only a proud moment for Puducherry Police, but also a moment of pride for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with the prestigious insignia carrying the creative imprint of an islander designer.
