
Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 07: Under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, organized awareness programmes on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan” at Mile Tilak Village and the Fish Landing Centre, Guptapara.
The programmes commenced with welcome addresses by the Project Coordinator, NAPDDR, who highlighted the harmful effects of drug and alcohol abuse and urged the public, especially parents and youth, to work together towards building a drug-free society. Participants were also informed about the counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation services available at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA).
The Medical Officer, IRCA, highlighted the harmful effects of alcohol on physical and mental health and created awareness about the de-addiction and rehabilitation services available at the Centre. A Resource Person from the Department of Industries encouraged participants to explore self-employment opportunities as a means of leading a productive and drug-free life. The Sub Inspector from the Narcotics Police sensitized the participants about the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the legal consequences of drug-related offences. The Community Health Officer from the Health Department emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding substance abuse. The State Coordinator, UDID Scheme, also briefed the participants on the benefits of the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card and the procedure for availing government welfare services for persons with disabilities.
The programmes concluded with the participants taking the “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” pledge and being encouraged to participate in the e-Pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. During the interactive session, participants’ queries were addressed by the resource persons. The programmes concluded with votes of thanks, appreciating the support of all collaborating departments and the active participation of the local community in promoting a drug-free society.
