Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 05: An Identification and Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) under the Inclusive Education component of Samagra Shiksha was successfully organized by the Block Project Office (BPO), Little Andaman on 05th August, 2026 at CRC, PM SHRI GMSSS Hutbay.
The programme commenced with an inaugural ceremony. The camp was formally inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony led by Mr. J. Senthil Kumar, PGT and Teacher In-charge, PM SHRI GMSSS Hutbay, along with other dignitaries.
The rehabilitation assessment of the students was carried out by Mr. Sabbir Rahaman Biswas and Mr. Naveen Anand. The medical assessment was conducted by the medical team from PHC Hutbay, comprising Dr. Subratu Sikder, MO (Hom.), Dr. A. Amreen, MO (Ayurveda), Mr. Madan Singh, Health Educator, Mrs. Elsie Ruben, LHV, Mrs. Shiny Cherian, Optometrist, Mrs. Alma Kujur, ANM, and Mr. P. Niyamatullah, JI and UDID Coordinator. Educational screening and assessment were undertaken by Ms. Naw Jasleen and Ms. Sunita Devi. Mr. Mohan Prasad served as the Sign Language Interpreter, facilitating effective communication with students requiring sign language support. The entire programme was efficiently coordinated by Ms. M. Vijayalakshmi.
The camp witnessed the participation of 26 students along with their parents/guardians. During the identification and assessment process, 4 students were identified as suspected cases requiring further evaluation and intervention.
The camp was observed by Mrs. Kshiti Rani Biswas, Headmistress (Middle), GMS Rabindra Nagar, who served as the Internal Observer and monitored the proceedings throughout the programme.
Parents and guardians actively participated in the camp and interacted with the professionals regarding the developmental, educational, and medical needs of their children. The professionals also provided guidance on the importance of early identification, timely intervention, and the various support services available under the Inclusive Education component of Samagra Shiksha.
As part of the initiative, Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) Kits and a Braille Kit were distributed to three eligible CwSN students based on their individual educational needs, with the objective of supporting their learning and promoting inclusive classroom participation.
The programme concluded successfully with the wholehearted cooperation of the resource persons, the medical team, school staff, parents, and the Block Project Office, Little Andaman. The camp proved to be a significant step towards promoting inclusive and equitable education by facilitating the early identification, assessment, and appropriate support for Children with Special Needs (CwSN), thereby strengthening the implementation of Inclusive Education under Samagra Shiksha.
