Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 03: In a significant step towards strengthening the coastal security architecture of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the A&N Police Marine Force, commenced a Two-Week Capsule Training Course on Coastal Policing (03-08-2026) at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Prothrapur. The training programme is being conducted from 03rd August to 14th August 2026 by a team of instructors from the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Okha, Gujarat.
The conduct of the training is in pursuance of the recommendations of the DGsP-IGsP Conference 2025, wherein the Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized enhancement of the professional capacity of Marine Police personnel through specialized training.
In 2024, expert faculty members from the National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP), Okha, visited Sri Vijaya Puram and through the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), imparted specialised Marine Policing training to 319 police personnel of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. In addition, 61 police personnel have successfully completed the 10-week Marine Police Foundation Course (MPFC) at NACP, Okha, Gujarat and are presently serving in various Marine Police Units across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The knowledge and skills gained from that program continue to benefit our personnel in their professional duties today.
Recognizing the practical constraints in deputing large numbers of police personnel from the Islands to the regular 10-week Marine Police Foundation Course at NACP due to operational commitments and manpower limitations, the Andaman & Nicobar Police requested the Ministry of Home Affairs for conduct of a capsule training programme in the Islands. Acting on the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Academy of Coastal Policing deputed a five-member instructor team comprising one Assistant Commandant, one Sub-Inspector and three Head Constables to conduct the training.
The training programme has been organized for 60 police personnel, comprising personnel posted at all Coastal Police Stations across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The course is aimed at enhancing their professional competence and equipping them with specialized knowledge and practical skills in coastal policing and maritime law enforcement, thereby strengthening the overall coastal security framework of the Union Territory.
The two-week capsule course has been designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical exposure in various aspects of coastal policing, including maritime security, coastal surveillance, navigation, seamanship, boarding procedures, search and rescue operations, marine communication, maritime law enforcement and inter-agency coordination. The programme aims to equip the participants with the specialized skills required for effective functioning in the Police Marine Force.
The inaugural function was graced by Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, as the Chief Guest, along with Mrs. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP, A&N Islands, Mrs. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, SP (PMF), Mr. Uma Shankar, Principal, NSCBPTI, Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DySP (PMF) and Mr. Chandan GS, Vice Principal, NSCBPTI.
In his inaugural address, the Director General of Police emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building, specialized training and inter-agency coordination in enhancing the operational preparedness of marine police personnel and strengthening the coastal security framework of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
