Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 2: Ograbraj Police unit has arrested a 37-year-old man and seized 4 kg of suspected ganja during a late-night anti-narcotics operation conducted near Government Middle School, Ograbraj, according to the FIR.
As per the FIR available online, Inspector Stalin N.S., SHO, PS Ograbraj, received credible information on the night of July 31 that Mainur Mandal (37), presently residing at Ograbraj, was allegedly attempting to sell illicit ganja near Government Middle School. The information was entered in the General Diary and immediately conveyed to Mr. Sunil, DANIPS, SDPO (Bambooflat), following which a raiding team was constituted under the leadership of SHO.
The police team, accompanied by two independent witnesses, reached the area and kept surveillance. Around 10 pm, a man carrying a white plastic bag was intercepted. He identified himself as Mainur Mandal, originally from Makra, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, and currently residing at Ograbraj.
According to the FIR, the accused was informed of his legal rights under Section 50 of the NDPS Act in the presence of Mr. Sunil, DANIPS, SDPO (Bambooflat). After completing the required legal formalities, police conducted a search.
During the search, officers recovered a white plastic bag containing a carton with 40 small packets wrapped in carbon paper and cello tape. Upon opening the packets, police allegedly found 4 kg of suspected ganja. The substance was tested on the spot using a Drug Detection Kit, which reportedly returned a positive result for ganja.
The contraband was seized and sealed in the presence of independent witnesses. The Police team arrested the accused near the bus stand adjacent to Government Middle School after completing all legal formalities. A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
