Mayabunder, Aug. 2: The Gram Panchayat, Pokkadera, has announced a peaceful democratic protest (Dharna) on August 5, 2026, demanding the immediate restoration of water supply to the Cattle Pound at Pokkadera Ward No. 2, which has reportedly remained non-functional due to the prolonged disruption in water supply.
According to an official communication issued by the Gram Panchayat to the Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, the Panchayat had earlier raised the issue with the authorities through letters dated July 10 and July 23, 2026. Despite repeated representations and follow-ups with the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), the water supply has not yet been restored.
The Panchayat stated that the continued absence of water has rendered the Cattle Pound inoperative for impounding stray cattle, causing inconvenience to the public and adversely affecting the implementation of the stray cattle management programme in the area.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of action, the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Pokkadera has decided to organise a peaceful protest in front of the Office of the Executive Engineer, NACD, APWD, Mayabunder, on August 5 at 10 a.m. The protest aims to draw the attention of the Administration towards the unresolved issue and seek immediate intervention.
In the letter, the Panchayat has once again urged the authorities to restore the water supply before the scheduled protest so that the matter can be resolved amicably and the proposed agitation can be avoided.
