Port Blair, Jun 21: Andaman Film Society with support from INTACH Andaman Chapter in coordination with Science Centre, A & N Administration is holding a Film Making Workshop. The Resource Persons are Directors Mr. Ranjan Das from the Film and Television Institute, Pune and Mr. Vipiav Shinde, a Director from Mumbai. The Workshop was inaugurated by Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Mrs. Abla Sammadar this morning at Science Centre.
The workshop is being organized at Science Centre from the 21st to the 30th of June 2013. During the workshop basics of scripting, screenplay writing, cinematography, direction and editing would be taught.
Mrs. Abla Sammadar, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad Speaking on the occasion praised the organizers for organizing such unique event. She in her inaugural speech said that “This is the first time in Andaman’s that this type of a event is being organized and usually in mainland one would happily pay about a Lakh rupees for the ten day workshop but here within Rs. 3000-5000 students will be able to learn film making. I also hope that the students will take full advantage of this workshop and enjoy film making. Further I and the administration will provide all kinds of help from our side and I will also talk to the Lt. Governor to help the students by reducing the cost of bringing the equipments to the Islands from mainland India,” SA ZP Adhyaksha said.
Later talking exclusively to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Ranjan Das, Director, Film and Television Institute, Pune said that he is spellbound to see beauty of these Islands. “Yesterday when I landed, I fell in love with this place. This pace is really beautiful and has lot of potential in terms of film making. Further the course is a ten day course covering basics of scripting, screenplay writing, cinematography, direction and editing. I hope that students learn a lot from us and contribute in film making after the completion of this workshop. There are a lot of themes on which documentaries can be made here like the cultural heritage of the islands etc.”
Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, one of the eminent film maker of these Islands, who is famous nationwide for his films, was also present on the occasion. While addressing the gathering Mr. Lal said that he is really happy to see that such workshop is being conducted in Andamans.
“Our islands are very beautiful and have a lot of potential for film making. Film making will provide a lot of opportunities to the islanders. The students of these Islands can also get nationwide fame with their films. It was difficult back in time to get permission from the administration to shoot for documentaries but now the permission can be obtained easily without much hassle,” Mr. Naresh also requested the Adyaksha, Zilla Parishad to help the students from the Islands and requested the LG to help in opening up a film industry in these Islands.
Mr. Mohan, Curator, Science Center was also present on the occasion. Mr. Mohan while addressing the gathering gave several examples on which documentaries can be made and encouraged the local youths from different parts of these Islands to take part in the film making workshop. He said the trainees should become resourceful persons and support the film industry of these Islands.
Participants’ would have a firsthand experience on camera handling techniques and budding film makers would have an in depth knowledge on the nuances of film making.
The workshop is being coordinated by Ms. Samhita Veda Acharya, Secretary of the Andaman Film Society with support from Mr. Mohan, Curator, Science Centre.
