Sri Vijaya Puram, July 21: A team of media personnel today called on the Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS at the Police Headquarters here, during which the DGP reiterated the Police department’s firm commitment to making the Islands completely drug-free through a combination of strict enforcement and sustained public awareness.
Senior Police officers present during the interaction also briefed the media about various ongoing and future initiatives being undertaken by the department to strengthen policing, improve operational capabilities and modernize the force. They highlighted measures aimed at enhancing coastal security, forensic capabilities, communication infrastructure and public outreach.
Senior police officers informed that to strengthen coastal policing and maritime security in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Police department has commenced a 21-day intensive training programme on ‘Marine Policing’ for Home Guard Volunteers of A&N Police at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Sri Vijaya Puram. He further stated that a modern Forensic Training Laboratory has also been established by the A&N Police, where police personnel will receive specialized forensic training to enhance scientific investigation capabilities.
Media persons were briefed that the A&N Police is upgrading its communication infrastructure to effectively combat technology-driven crimes, improve emergency response systems and strengthen connectivity with communities. In this regard, High Frequency communication sets are being procured with financial support from the Government. It was further informed that four additional Fast Interceptor Boats have also been acquired, adding to the existing fleet of marine speed boats. These vessels will significantly strengthen the operational capabilities of the Police Marine Force by improving coastal surveillance, maritime patrolling and disaster response and rescue operations.
Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, is a 1995-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer who assumed charge as the head of the Andaman & Nicobar Police in June 2026. Mr. Rajesh Deo, IPS, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) was also present during the meeting.
