Chatham Bridge serves as a vital transportation link connecting the residents of Ferrargunj Tehsil with the Headquarters at Sri Vijaya Puram. The prolonged restriction on the movement of four-wheelers due to repair has caused considerable inconvenience to commuters, residents, students, and the general public who depend on this important connectivity for their daily travel.
The Adhyaksh, ZPSA, emphasized the importance of completing the work within the stipulated timeframe, considering the bridge’s significance to the socio-economic activities of the region. He appreciated the efforts being made by the APWD and urged the executing agency to maintain the desired quality standards while ensuring that the work is completed without unnecessary delay.
The Chief Engineer, APWD, informed that all efforts are being made to expedite the work and assured that the repair of the bridge is expected to be completed by December. Upon completion and after all necessary safety
inspections and clearances, the bridge will be reopened for the movement of four-wheelers, thereby restoring normal traffic and providing much-needed relief to the residents of Ferrargunj Tehsil and adjoining areas.
The inspection reflects the commitment of the Zilla Parishad South Andaman and APWD to closely monitor critical infrastructure projects and ensure their timely completion in the larger public interest.
