Sri Vijaya Puram, July 3: In a significant step towards promoting digital governance and enhancing passenger convenience, the Transport Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has introduced a QR code-based cashless fare collection system in Administration-operated STS bus services under the Bus Terminus, Sri Vijaya Puram, in the first phase of implementation. The initiative aims to provide commuters with a safe, secure, and hassle-free digital payment option while promoting transparency, efficiency, and ease of doing business in public transport services.
Under this initiative, commuters can now pay their bus fares instantly through any UPI-enabled mobile application by scanning the QR code available with the Bus Conductors. The system offers a safe, mode of payment, eliminating the need to carry exact cash while reducing transaction time and improving operational efficiency.
The QR-based payment facility ensures transparency in fare collection, minimizes cash handling, and supports the Government’s vision of a digitally empowered society. The initiative is also expected to improve passenger experience by providing a quick and convenient payment option, especially for daily commuters, students, and tourists.
The Transport Department has appealed to the general public to actively utilize this digital payment facility and support the transition towards cashless public transportation. Commuters are encouraged to keep their preferred UPI applications ready while travelling and make use of the QR-based payment system for a seamless and efficient journey.
