Sri Vijaya Puram, July 02: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sri Vijaya Puram, has issued a weather advisory forecasting unsettled weather conditions across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the coming days, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at isolated places.
According to the advisory, from July 3 to July 8, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places across the islands. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of adverse weather.
The IMD has also issued a seven-day fishermen warning, stating that squally winds with speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are expected to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coasts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during the warning period due to rough sea conditions.
In addition, swell waves with a period of 16–18 seconds and wave heights of 1.6–2.0 metres are expected along the coasts. Authorities have cautioned that there is a possibility of wave surges and have advised boat operators and those engaging in recreational activities at sea to exercise utmost vigilance.
The IMD has urged residents, fishermen and all concerned departments to stay updated with official weather bulletins and follow advisories issued by the administration to ensure public safety.
