Sri Vijaya Puram, June 30 : On 25/06/2026 during a routine vehicle check at the Forest Check Post, Ferrargunj under Tusnabad Range, the Forest Department intercepted an LMV at about 1700 hrs coming from Mayabunder proceeding towards Sri Vijaya Puram. On inspection, the checking team recovered 0.720 kg of Wild Boar meat, 0.800 kg of Sea Turtle meat, and 35.350 kg of suspected venison from the vehicle. All the contraband was seized alongwith the vehicle and the accused was arrested as per the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. After completing all codal formalities the accused was produced before the Hon’ble Court. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
On 28.06.2026 based on credible inputs received from reliable source, the staff of Manglutan Range conducted a surprise check at the Chouldari Sunday market and detected a person selling Giant Grouper fish, a species listed under Schedule I, Part E of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Upon detection of the offence a case was registered under relevant provisions of the said Act and the accused was produced before the Hon’ble Court. The court remanded the accused to judicial custody for 14 days. Further investigation is on to trace the source of the contraband.
On 28.06.2026 the Police staff of Police Out Post, Wimberlygunj detected a wildlife offence in which 14 Kg of Venison was seized from the possession of two persons from Shoalbay 10 No and handed over the seized produce and the accused to the Range Officer, Mannarghat. On receipt of the seized items and the accused a case was registered under the relevant provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and arrested the accused persons. They were produced before the Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate at Sri Vijaya Puram who remanded the accused to judicial custody.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Shri Rajee George, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman Forest Division, and the guidance of Shri R.S. Sharath, Assistant Conservator of Forests and Shri. Pawan Gupta, IFS, Assistant Conservator of Forests, South Andaman Forest Division.
