Sri Vijaya Puram, June 28: The vigilant night patrolling by the staff of PS Billiground led to the apprehension of a suspected habitual temple thief before he could commit any offence in the North & Middle Andaman district.
During routine night patrolling on the intervening night of 24/06/2026, police personnel HC(SG)IRBn Ranjan Halder, PCs Rakesh Das, Rahul Mondal and HG(V) Sudeb Roy noticed a suspicious individual loitering in the Billiground market area. On being intercepted and questioned, he was identified as Nayan Barr (23) yrs S/o Mr. Bikash Barr R/o Bakultala, Rangat. On preliminary enquiry revealed that, he is allegedly involved in multiple theft cases, particularly targeting temples. It further came to light that, after allegedly committing thefts in South Andaman, he had moved towards the North & Middle Andaman district with the suspected intention of committing similar offences.
Earlier, 02 theft cases against unknown persons were registered at PS Pahargaon vide FIR No. 101/26 dated 25.06.2026 U/s 305(a)/331(4) BNS, 2023 and FIR No. 102/26 dated 26.06.2026 U/s 305(d)/331(4) BNS, 2023. During sustained interrogation, accused Nayan Barr disclosed his involvement in both the above-mentioned cases and confessed to having committed the offences. Later, the accused has been handed over to PS Pahargaon for further course of investigation.

Timely reporting enables the police to take swift and effective action to prevent and control criminal activities. The identity of the informants will be kept strictly confidential and they will be suitably rewarded for providing credible information.
