Campbell Bay, June 21: International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the scenic Laxman Beach in Campbell Bay on Sunday, where more than 100 participants gathered for a special Beach Yoga session organized by the administration.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Campbell Bay, Shri Shivam Tashi Dhawa (DANICS), with active support from the Health Department, AYUSH Department, and various government agencies. Officials, PRI representatives, local leaders, students, and members of the public participated in the event.
The yoga session, led by Yoga Trainer Mrs. Sheela, commenced at around 6:30 a.m. and focused on promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle.
Among the dignitaries present were ACF Shri Rajendra Verma, DYSP Shri Samuel, CMO Dr. Meena Nasir, Dr. Veerendra Singh Sandhu (Medical Officer, Dental), Dr. Rajeswari (Medical Officer, Ayurveda), Heads of Departments, education officials, medical staff, police personnel, and local representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Commissioner Shri Shivam Tashi Dhawa emphasized the importance of connecting with nature while embracing a healthy lifestyle. He noted that organizing yoga at Laxman Beach not only promotes wellness but also encourages people to appreciate the unique natural beauty of Great Nicobar and work collectively towards the island’s progress and sustainable development.
The celebration was part of a wider Yoga Day campaign across Great Nicobar. Similar yoga sessions were held at Indira Point, Community Health Centres, government offices, police establishments, and other locations throughout the region.
Medical officers also highlighted the importance of motivating young people towards healthy habits, discipline, and regular physical activity. Participants described yoga as a pathway to physical fitness, mental peace, and overall well-being.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to incorporate yoga into daily life and promote a healthier society under the spirit of International Yoga Day.
