Sri Vijaya Puram, June 18: A 25-year-old man was dragged away by a crocodile while attempting to retrieve his dinghy from a creek at Mile Tilak under Ferrargunj Tehsil this morning at around 7.30 AM. A massive search operation has been launched by the Forest Department and Police to recover the victim’s body, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Pradhan of Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat, told Andaman Sheekha Daily.
According to Mr. Sunil Kumar, the victim has been identified as Deepak Kujur (25). He had reportedly gone out in his dinghy for fishing or other work when the boat got stuck in the creek. While trying to free the dinghy by entering the water, a crocodile attacked him and dragged him away before he could be rescued.
Soon after the incident, local residents alerted the authorities. Teams from the Forest Department and Police rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation. Despite their efforts, the victim could not be rescued.
Mr. Sunil Kumar further informed Andaman Sheekha Daily that during the search operation, the crocodile was reportedly spotted by the search team with the victim’s body. However, the reptile could not be captured, and the body could not be recovered. Search operations are continuing to trace the body, while forest officials are also making efforts to locate and capture the crocodile.
The search operation was continuing till the filing of this report.
