
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 17: Under the visionary initiative of Mrs. Pallavi Sarkar IAS the Secretary (Agriculture), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the ceremonial launch of ” Spice Pravah 2. ” was successfully organized on 17th June in the remote islands with the objective of promoting spice cultivation and enhancing the income of farmers. As part of this flagship programme, Mr. Arindam Dutta, SCFA (Incharge), Agriculture Sub Depot, Billyground, organized a special launch event at the residential premises of Mr. Jyotish Hawlader at Harinagar-6, under Gram Panchayat Harinagar.
The programme witnessed the active participation of several local dignitaries and community members, including Mr. Manojit Halder, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Harinagar; Mr. Prosenjit Mondal , Standing Committee Chairman; and Mr. Sreemanta Debnath, Senior Citizen, along with a large number of farmers and local villagers.
Addressing the gathering, the SCFA elaborated on the unique advantages of cultivating spice crops and emphasized their high commercial potential. Farmers were encouraged to adopt spice cultivation as a sustainable means to diversify their agricultural activities and improve their livelihoods. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Manojit Halder, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Harinagar, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Secretary (Agriculture), Director (Agriculture), and officials of the Agriculture Department for extending this beneficial initiative to the area. He also expressed sincere appreciation to the Secretary (Agriculture) for the prompt resolution of several long-pending agricultural issues affecting the local farming community. To commemorate the launch of the campaign, a ceremonial plantation drive was conducted during which spice saplings were planted by the Pradhan, departmental officials, and other enthusiastic participants, symbolizing their collective commitment towards strengthening spice cultivation and improving the economic well-being of farmers in the region.
