Sri Vijaya Puram, June 01: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Unit of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) successfully organized its annual conclave “Mahanadu–2026” on May 27 and 28 at the Municipal Community Hall, Haddo, Sri Vijaya Puram. The two-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from party leaders, cadres, NRI supporters, and Telugu-speaking families from across the islands.
The programme commenced with tributes to the late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), followed by party flag hoisting and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
During the conclave, leaders reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the welfare of the Telugu community and the overall development of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Several important resolutions were unanimously adopted, including safeguarding the rights of Telugu settlers in the islands, improving shipping and air connectivity with Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Kolkata, expediting land regularization issues, and creating greater employment opportunities for island youth.
The event also featured detailed discussions on NTR’s ideology, the Vision-2047 roadmap of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and the role of the party in nation-building. Leaders stressed the need to strengthen grassroots organizational activities across the islands.
A public meeting held on the evening of May 28 drew a large gathering. Senior leaders Mr. Babjji and Mr. Shaul Ahammad addressed issues concerning the Telugu community, including Telugu-medium education, promotion of Telugu culture, and welfare measures for fishermen and farmers.
Addressing the gathering, N. Manikya Rao Yadav, State President, TDP Andaman & Nicobar Unit, said that Mahanadu is not merely a party event but a celebration of Telugu self-respect and identity. He emphasized that despite the geographical distance from Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu spirit remains strong and vibrant in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by G.J. Prasad, Vice-President of the TDP Andaman & Nicobar Unit, followed by slogans of “Jai Telugu Desam” and “Jai Hind.”
