Sri Vijaya Puram, June 01: The State Control Room has issued a weather warning for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning at one or two places across the Islands during the next seven days.
According to the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), squally winds with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast from June 2 to June 4, 2026.
In view of the adverse sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman & Nicobar coast during the period. A swell surge alert has also been issued for coastal areas, with swell waves ranging between 1.3 and 1.5 metres expected till the night of June 2.
Authorities have cautioned that surging waves may affect coastal activities and advised boat operators to ply with utmost vigilance. People engaging in recreational activities along the coast have also been urged to exercise due care.
Meanwhile, a farmer warning has also been issued, advising the farming community to remain alert as thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning are likely to affect agricultural operations in parts of the Islands over the next five days.
The outlook for the subsequent two days indicates little change in the prevailing weather conditions.
