Port Blair, Feb 24: In wake of the recent spurt in the activities of Burmese poachers, particularly on the western coast of these Islands, the A & N Police launched a massive combing and anti poaching operation involving coordination of the personnel of the Police Marine Force and police personnel of seven Police Stations viz Hutbay, Humfrygunj, Ograbraj, Kadamtala, Mayabunder, Kalighat, Diglipur and Outpost Kishorinagar. The A&N Police deployed its marine force assets strategically all over the western coastline.
One rubberized inflatable boat (RIB) and one fast interceptor boat (FIB) was specifically deployed at Ponghy Balu with sufficient police personnel on board. On receipt of credible information about the sighting of the poachers near Tarmugli Island, the personnel of Police Marine Force and PS Humfrygunj moved swiftly and apprehended 11 poachers of Burmese nationality near Tarmugli Island off the western coast on 24/02/2012. During the course of operation, the army personnel also joined the police.
Further, in another successful combing and anti poaching operation, 05 Burmese poachers have been apprehended from the Burma nallah area near Diglipur by the police personnel of PS Diglipur on 24.02.2012.
The apprehended poachers are being brought to Port Blair for their further interrogation and investigation. Several dinghies, kerosene oil, consumables etc have also been seized from their possession.
