Rangat, May 26: The National RTI Forum has submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, urging the government to establish essential traveller facilities along the National Highway connecting various parts of the islands.
In a letter addressed to the administration, Mr. V. Senthil Kumar, Member of the National RTI Forum, highlighted the difficulties faced by passengers, tourists, senior citizens, women, children, patients, and daily commuters due to the lack of basic amenities along the highway.
The representation emphasized the need for facilities such as public toilets, bus shelters with seating arrangements, drinking water points, emergency medical and first-aid support, ambulance services, proper lighting, signboards, and designated rest areas. According to the forum, these amenities are crucial for ensuring the safety, comfort, and convenience of people undertaking long-distance travel across the islands.
The forum noted that the absence of such facilities often causes significant inconvenience, particularly during extended journeys between North, Middle, and South Andaman regions.
Calling the issue a matter of public welfare, the National RTI Forum requested the administration and the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to take immediate steps to develop traveller-friendly infrastructure at suitable locations along the highway.
The representation has been forwarded to the concerned authorities for consideration, with hopes that the initiative will enhance the overall travel experience and public convenience across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
