
Baratang, May 26: In an effort to address key civic issues and improve public infrastructure, the Zilla Parishad N&M Andaman, Adhyaksh Mr. Alager Swamy recently visited Khadi Basti in Baratang along with officials from various departments. The inspection focused on identifying local challenges and discussing practical solutions for the welfare of residents.
During the visit, discussions were held regarding the construction of three seawall drainage structures aimed at reducing the risk of crocodile intrusions into residential areas. Residents highlighted the need for stronger protective measures to ensure public safety, especially in vulnerable coastal locations.
The team also reviewed the condition of the local Anganwadi Centre. It was proposed that the existing temporary structure be replaced with a permanent building to provide better facilities for children and staff.
Road infrastructure was another major topic of discussion. Officials assessed the condition of the Oralkatcha Ground Road, where repair and maintenance work has been requested to improve connectivity and transportation.
In addition, local fishermen raised concerns regarding access to boats and fish transportation. Authorities discussed the possibility of constructing steps and improved access points near the waterfront to facilitate easier handling and sale of fish.
Residents expressed hope that the visit would result in timely action and long-term development initiatives for the area.
