Diglipur, May 26: A delegation of Gram Panchayat Ramnagar led by Mr. Mithun Das, Pradhan, GP Ramnagar, met the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, and submitted various proposals and public welfare demands related to education, village development, and promotion of rural tourism in Ramnagar area.
The main demand placed before the Deputy Commissioner was for opening of an English Medium Arts Stream at GSSS Kalighat. Mr. Mithun Das highlighted that after passing Class X, many students from Ramnagar and nearby villages are compelled to travel nearly 80 km daily for pursuing higher secondary education in English medium, causing serious hardship to students and parents.
He requested the administration to take necessary steps for introduction of the Arts Stream at GSSS Kalighat in the larger interest of rural students. During the meeting, the delegation also requested for conducting a feasible survey of the Dhoong Dhong Nallah water source to address drinking water requirements and future water security of the village.
The delegation further urged the administration to organise a Monsoon Beach Festival or Island Tourism Festival (ITF) at Ramnagar Beach to promote rural tourism, generate self-employment opportunities for local youths, and encourage village-based economic activities. The delegation also sought the attention of the Deputy Commissioner towards deputing an official of the IP&T Department for Diglipur Zone to work on identification and promotion of rural tourism spots and to attend Gram Sabha meetings for better coordination and tourism-related planning in the region.
Among other important issues, the delegation requested for setting apart land for installation of a static water tank by the Fire Department at Ramnagar for emergency fire safety purposes. The delegation also demanded development and setting apart of an approach path to Narkel Denga Beach to improve tourism connectivity and boost eco-tourism activities in Ramnagar village. The Deputy Commissioner patiently heard the issues and assured the delegation that the matters would be examined sympathetically for necessary action, a press release from the Office of the Pradhan, GP Ramnagar, said today.
