Sri Vijaya Puram, May 18: The Lt. Governor of A&N Islands has approved the reconstitution of the Regional Records Survey Committee along with Sub-Committees under the new name District Records Survey Committee for the three districts of South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman, and Nicobar.
The Sub-Committees will function under the leadership of the respective Deputy Commissioners of the districts. These committees have been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out surveys and preparing an inventory of records, documents, photographs, manuscripts and other materials related to the history of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As part of the initiative, individuals and private institutions possessing such historical records and materials have been requested to come forward and share the information with the A&N Archives. Interested persons may contact the A&N Archives directly, call on telephone number 230695, or approach the Deputy Commissioner of their respective district.
The Administration stated that original records or copies of such documents will be preserved at the A&N Archives, Secretariat, for future reference and for the benefit of research scholars, students and the general public. It was further informed that any expenses incurred towards photocopying or related work would be borne by the A&N Administration.
The Administration has also assured that due acknowledgement will be given by the Regional Records Survey Committee to all individuals and institutions that come forward to donate or share historical records and documents for archival preservation.
