Billiground, May 15: A devastating fire incident triggered by an alleged LPG cylinder leakage completely destroyed a house at Harinagar Ward No. 6, leaving the affected family with nothing but ashes. The incident reportedly took place at around 9:30 pm on 13 May 2026 night and created panic across the entire village after a loud cylinder blast shook the area.
The house belonged to Mr. Ajoy Halder, a local resident who earns his livelihood by driving an auto-rickshaw. According to family members, the fire started while cooking was underway inside the house. Mr. Halder stated while cooking flames were noticed coming from the LPG cylinder regulator.
Speaking about the terrifying incident, Mr. Halder said he initially tried to control the flames and save the situation. However, the fire spread rapidly within seconds. He added that flames were erupting from all sides of the regulator similar to a burner flame, making it impossible to control. He attempted to remove the cylinder and throw it outside, but by then the cylinder had already become extremely hot.
Family members managed to escape moments before a massive explosion occurred. Villagers said the sound of the blast was so loud that it could be heard throughout the surrounding areas. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident despite the intensity of the fire.
The fire quickly engulfed the entire house and all belongings inside were destroyed. According to the family, important documents, cash, gold ornaments, household items, food grains and other valuables were completely burnt in the blaze. The family members said they could not save anything from inside the house due to the speed at which the fire spread.
Following the incident, newly elected North & Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh Mr. R. Alager Swamy, ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder and several Congress workers visited the affected family on 14 May to assess the damage and offer support.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Mr. Rangalal Halder described the incident as extremely tragic and appealed to the Administration to extend maximum possible assistance to the affected family. He said the family had lost everything in the fire and now required urgent rehabilitation support.
Mr. R. Alager Swamy, Adhyaksh, N&M Andaman ZP stated that immediately after receiving information about the incident, he contacted senior district officials including the Deputy Commissioner and other concerned authorities regarding relief assistance for the family. He assured that all possible efforts would be made to ensure compensation and rehabilitation support at the earliest.
Local leaders and villagers also appealed to the authorities and LPG agency concerned to examine whether any technical fault in the regulator or cylinder connection had caused the fire. Residents expressed hope that necessary assistance would be provided quickly so that the family could rebuild their home and restart their lives.
