Port Blair, June 06: The GREENO ECO CLUB OF GOVERNMENT SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, SABARI,MIDDLE ANDAMAN observed “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2013”ON 5TH JUNE 2013.The theme for this year was “ Think, Eat and Save ”.Various programmes were conducted to observe the day in a meaningful manner.
Principal, GSSS Sabari released a special poster designed by the school Eco Club at a small function held at the school premises. He motivated the green cadets by his enlightening words and appealed to the students and teachers for getting themselves involved in some sort of action for protecting and conserving Mother Nature. He stressed upon that the need for everyone to play their part in keeping humankind’s ecological footprint within planetary boundaries.
Principal urged to the students that there is an urgent need to create awareness among people about the food wastage in the world. People should be made aware about the environmental impact of the food choices they make as one-third of the global food produced is either wasted or lost. Food waste is an enormous drain of natural resources and hence a contributor to negative environmental impacts.
Shri Bency Joy, Eco Club Incharge also highlighted that the aim behind keeping this theme for the special day is to discourage the wastage of food and to promote the food loss campaign, encouraging people to reduce their food print. With the promotion of this theme on June 5, the environment lovers will persuade people to think before eating and hence contributing in saving the environment.
The released poster depicts some eco friendly tips for keeping Rangat clean and green. A team lead by Shri Bency Joy, Eco club Incharge and Shri Y Sajeevan along with the green cadets of the school affixed the posters at prominent public viewing places at Rangat and Sabari. The Greenos also interacted with the public, sensitized them about the importance of the celebration of the day. They urged to the general public to take corrective measures right from their homes and reduce food wastage, save money, minimize the environmental impact of food production and force food production processes to become more efficient.
