
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 24: The foundation stones for long-pending works sanctioned under PMGSY-II were laid by Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, in the presence of Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, along with other officials, PRI members and members of the general public at 04 locations i.e. 1 in Baratang and 03 in Kadamtala on 22nd and 23rd April 2026 respectively.
These projects aim at the upgradation and improvement of rural roads to facilitate easier movement for commuters who have long been facing difficulties due to the lack of proper motorable roads. The poor condition of existing roads has caused significant hardship for residents, affecting daily activities such as livelihood, education for school-going children, and access to medical treatment. The details of the roads for which foundation stones were laid are (i) Upgradation of rural road from Alphonous House to Graveyard at Vijaygarh via Easter Toppo House, covering a length of 2.60 km under Sunderghar Gram Panchayat (ii) Upgradation of rural road from ATR to Jarwa Tikri at Kadamtala, covering a length of 1.279 km (iii) Upgradation of rural road from ATR to Uttara Bada Gol area, covering a length of 1.740 km (iv) Upgradation of rural road from ATR to Uttara Corner, covering a length of 2.080 km.
The contractors have committed to completing the works within the stipulated timelines, as assured during the foundation-laying ceremonies in the presence of local residents.
Villagers and PRI members expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Member of Parliament and the A&N Administration for addressing their long-pending basic infrastructure needs.
