Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 27: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in continuation of his earlier appeals made to the Government on 12.09.2025 and 22.03.2026, raised an important welfare-related issue in the august House of Lok Sabha to on 27th March Day, i.e., 27th March 2026.
Highlighting the matter, Mr. Ray drew the attention of the Government towards the long-pending demand for regularization and absorption of nearly 12,000 workers engaged as DRMs and on contractual basis across around 40 departments under the A&N Administration like Agriculture department, electricity department, APWD etc.
He emphasized that many of these workers have been rendering continuous service for more than 15 years in various departments. In certain cases, some DRMs like in APWD have been extended the benefit of 1/30th pay pattern reflecting the long-standing nature of their engagement and the essential services they provide.
He further informed the House that the High Court, vide its order dated 19.02.2026, has also passed directions in this regard, which may kindly be taken into consideration while arriving at a decision.
Placing the concerns of these workers before the House, Mr. Ray made a humble appeal to the Prime Minister to sympathetically consider their long-pending demand for regularization/absorption of their service service.
Mr. Ray expressed hope that the Government would take a positive and compassionate view of the matter in the larger interest of justice and welfare of the affected employees.
