Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 10: The behaviour of the state government during the International Santhal Conference held on 7th March in Darjeeling (Siliguri, West Bengal), attended by the President, was extremely reprehensible and insulting. At this International Santhal Conference, a large number of Santhals and other tribal and urban communities gathered from India as well as neighbouring countries Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. The venue of the conference was suddenly changed two days prior, which was very small considering the magnitude of the conference and the presence of the President.
The administration made alleged unwarranted attempts to reduce the number of attendees and created many obstacles in front of the representatives. Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram strongly condemns the negligence in the security arrangements for Honorable President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, the absence of the Chief Minister or any senior Minister according to protocol, the lack of cooperation with her, and the malevolent behaviour exhibited by the state government and local administration.
A press release from Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram today said that this is not only an insult to the highest constitutional post of the Honorable President, but also an insult to the entire tribal community of the country and the Santhal language. The country is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, but when will we learn to keep the President and other high constitutional offices – the people occupying them – away from petty politics?
