Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 23: The Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India demanded the Union Government to withdraw from its move to transfer the affiliations of seven colleges in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Pondicherry University to the deemed university that has been formed without any proper studies or procedures. The move has created much trouble for the students pursuing their academic career.
Much of the student section, including the students from different states, chose to enrol in the Andaman medical college primarily because it was affiliated with Pondicherry University, a renowned Central University. However, the decision to change the affiliation was notified by the university authorities only after the first semester examinations. Consequently, students will now receive degrees from the proposed deemed university instead of a well renowned Pondicherry University. Along with this, there are also concerns regarding syllabus, academic structure, fee structure, examination system etc, which are not resolved by the government yet. This has raised serious anxiety among the students.
The students and the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are protesting the forceful imposition of a deemed university on them. SFI expresses solidarity with the struggling people in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on this issue. SFI demands the Union government to democratically address the concerns of the students in the islands.
