Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 23: The State Control Room under the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, has issued a weather advisory based on inputs from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cautioning residents across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands about expected thunderstorm activity over the next few days.
According to IMD Kolkata, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over Nicobar Islandson Tuesday, 24 February, and Wednesday, 25 February. No significant warning has been issued for the subsequent days of the forecast period.
A farmer warning has also been issued by IMD Sri Vijaya Puram, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 24 and 25 February. Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect crops and livestock.
No specific port warning has been issued. However, a swell surge alert remains in effect for the coast of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to remain cautious and stay updated through official advisories.
The Administration has urged the public, fishermen, and farmers to exercise due caution during thunderstorm activity and follow safety guidelines issued by the authorities.
