
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 01: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), under the dynamic leadership of its President Mr. Rangalal Halder, organised a Public Meeting under the banner “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” on 30th January, 2026 at Ward No. 11, South Point, to defend the rights, dignity, and livelihood of MGNREGA workers and island residents.
Addressing the gathering, Congress leaders strongly condemned the anti-worker policies of the BJP Government, particularly the serious flaws in the VB G RAM G Bill, which will severely affect the employment opportunities under MGNREGA. The speakers highlighted how these policies have resulted in job insecurity, delayed payments, and erosion of guaranteed employment for the poor and marginalised sections of society.
In addition to MGNREGA-related concerns, party leaders also highlighted several pressing local issues faced by islanders, including unemployment among youths, rising cost of living, inadequate civic amenities, delays in welfare schemes, and neglect of basic infrastructure. The speakers assured the public that the Congress Party will raise these issues at all appropriate forums and fight for the rightful demands of the people.
The meeting witnessed the presence of several leaders including Senior Leader Mr. Ratan Behari, District President Mr. John Robert Babu, Mahila Congress President Smt. Zubaida Begum, City Congress President Mr. Mohd Zubair, Youth Congress Vice-President Mr. M.A. Sajid, OBC Chairman Mr. R.K. Raj, City Congress General Secretary Mr. Sadab Riaz, Municipal Ex- Chairperson & Ex- Councillor Mr. Mahender Prasad, along with other Congress functionaries and enthusiastic residents of Ward No. 11.
Concluding the programme, the leaders collectively resolved to intensify the “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” movement and stand firmly with the workers and islanders against all policies that threaten employment, welfare, and the socio-economic security of the people.
The programme was successfully organised by Municipal Councillor Ward No.11 Mr. Sanjeev Reddy and City Congress General Secretary Mr. Raj Reddy.
