On the auspicious occasion of the 50th Raising Day of the Indian Coast Guard, I convey my warmest felicitations and sincere appreciation to all ranks of the Indian Coast Guard, its civilian personnel and their families.
Envisioned half a century ago as a dedicated maritime force, the Indian Coast Guard today stands as a cornerstone of the nation’s coastal security framework, humanitarian assistance and maritime governance, discharging its responsibilities with exemplary professionalism and commitment.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, encompassing vast maritime zones and vital sea lanes, occupy a pivotal position in the Coast Guard’s operational landscape. Operating from this strategically important region, the Indian Coast Guard has consistently demonstrated exceptional competence in Search and Rescue operations, often navigating adverse weather conditions and treacherous seas to save lives at sea. Its timely and well-coordinated responses to cyclones, maritime incidents and medical emergencies have earned widespread respect and confidence among coastal communities and the maritime fraternity.
Equally commendable are the Coast Guard’s efforts in marine pollution response, fisheries protection and enforcement of maritime laws. Through continuous surveillance, interception of illegal activities at sea and sustained anti-narcotics operations, the Service has played a vital role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and supporting the growth of the blue economy.
The steady induction of advanced offshore patrol vessels, fast patrol vessels and modern aircraft and helicopters underscore its commitment to technological odernization and enhanced operational effectiveness.
As the Indian Coast Guard commemorates this golden milestone at Sri Vijaya Puram, it is an opportune moment to acknowledge the courage, dedication and selfless service of its personnel, who exemplify the motto “Vayam Rakshamah” – We Protect, in both letter and spirit.
