Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 30: The Chairman of the Campaign Committee–ANTC, Mr. TSG. Bhasker, has expressed concern over the uneven progress of the NH-4 road construction in North and Middle Andaman, while acknowledging improvements in certain stretches.
Referring to a communication from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), which stated that all stretches of NH-4 are proposed to be completed by June 2026, Mr. Bhasker said that a recent journey between Mayabunder and Baratang revealed mixed ground realities.
He noted that the pace of work in several stretches is encouraging and described the speed of construction in some areas as “spectacular.” The road stretch from Mayabunder to Billiground has become motorable, though further work is required to bring it up to the desired standards.
However, serious concerns were raised about other sections of the highway. The entire stretch between Billiground and Rangat was found to be in very poor condition, except at one or two locations. Large portions of the Rangat–Kadamtala stretch are also in bad shape, despite some ongoing work. Similarly, most of the Kadamtala–Baratang stretch remains untouched, with construction activity visible only at a few isolated points.
In view of these observations, Mr. Bhasker has urged NHIDCL to further improve both the quality and speed of construction and to expedite work across all pending stretches. He emphasized that timely completion of the project is crucial and should ideally be achieved well before the onset of the rainy season, in the interest of public safety and connectivity.
